In a recent interview with Moviefone, Radcliffe stated "I grew up around gay people my entire life, basically, that's possibly why I'm quite camp, and some people think I'm gay when I meet them, which I think is awesome. It's always good to keep them guessing."

Radcliffe also revealed that according to some internet sources, he has a 'gay face': "I don't go on any blogs or chats or anything, but my friends are demons for them, and apparently someone said "Daniel Radcliffe is gay. He's got a gay face!" [Laughs] I really don't know what a gay face is." The statement came as the 20-year-old star discussed the recent rise of Harry Potter headmaster Dumbledore as an icon for the gay rights movement.

The actor gave his full support to Rowling for her decision to create a gay character within the series: "I think it's wonderful that Dumbledore was outed as gay … Half of me thinks Jo Rowling just did that to see if she could piss off the right wing, but I'm not sure how true that is. I think she had it planned, I think she always knew he was gay."

He also opened up about the infamous Equus picture. "It was just going to happen, wasn't it? Somebody was going to get a picture up. It's not me looking my proudest, if I'm honest with you, it's not me in my best [laughs]. But, hell, the pictures were always going to get out, and I knew that. And frankly, there's not even one part of me that feels I shouldn't have done it. It was the best thing for me, to get back to what I love doing, which is acting" Radcliffe said.

Chico’s Tacos restaurant doesn't like homosexuals eating their fast-food tacos

Carlos Diaz de Leon and four friends visited the popular Chico's Tacos chain in Montwood for dinner late on June 26, when security guards at the establishment noticed two of the men kissing and said the behavior meant they would have to leave. De Leon called the police, who sided with the security guards, citing a state law against homosexual activity that was overturned by the U.S. Supreme Court in 2003.

"It was a simple kiss on the lips," said Carlos Diaz de Leon.

De Leon quoted one of the guards as saying he didn't allow "that faggot stuff" in the restaurant.

Police declined to identify the officers who responded, but department spokesman Javier Sambrano described one officer as relatively inexperienced.

De Leon said the officer told the group it was illegal for two men or two women to kiss in public. The five men, he said, were told they could be cited for homosexual conduct -- a law the U.S. Supreme Court ruled unconstitutional in 2003 in Lawrence v. Texas.

Chico's Tacos just celebrated their 56-year anniversary this past Fourth of July. Now a planned protest is aimed at the popular El Paso restaurant chain.

"I have had over 67 text messages this morning, people asking if we need anything they're there for us," said Carlos Diaz de Leon.

Part of that support is people threatening to boycott the popular El Paso establishment Chico's Tacos.

"I'm not trying to get people not to go to Chico's, we love the food at Chico's, everybody loves Chico's," said Diaz de Leon.

But after Carlos and his friends were kicked out of the restaurant after two of his friends - both men - kissed on the lips, he says he's a little disappointed with Chico's. "We are, however, a little bothered that the management didn't step in."

Chico's Tacos owner Bernie Mora says he was out of town when it happened. He rarely addresses the media but tells ABC-7 he serves up tacos, not discrimination.

Mora says, "We are here to sell tacos, not to offend anyone."

"The security guard received a complaint from some of the customers there," El Paso police Detective Carlos Carrillo said. "Every business has the right to refuse service. They have the right to refuse service to whoever they don't want there. That's their prerogative."

Briana Stone, a lawyer with the Paso del Norte Civil Rights Project, disagreed.

She said the city anti-discrimination ordinance protects people on the basis of gender identity and sexual orientation in public places. Perhaps more troubling, she said, was that the police officer chose not to enforce that ordinance and might have contributed to discrimination.

"This is such a blatant refusal to uphold the law on account of discrimination," she said. "The result is devastating. The Police Department is allowing that and even participating in it by refusing to enforce an anti-discrimination ordinance, which is what their job is."

Lisa Graybill, legal director for the ACLU of Texas, said that businesses can ask patrons to leave for lewd conduct, but that those standards would have to apply to all customers.

"If a straight couple wouldn't have gotten kicked out for it," she said, "a gay couple shouldn't."

Cristiano Ronaldo has been unveiled as a Real Madrid player in front of thousands of nearly 80,000 screaming supporters at the Bernabeu Stadium after completing his £80 million move from Manchester United.

After 50,000 turned out for the presentation of Brazilian playmaker Kaka last week, the club faithful began converging on the stadium around lunchtime to welcome the Portuguese international.

The huge arena in the centre of the Spanish capital again reverberated to the beat of rock music as a selection of Ronaldo's goals were replayed on a giant screen in the centre of the pitch.

Shortly after 9pm local time, the World Player of the Year emerged to a rapturous reception and was welcomed on stage by club legend Alfredo di Stefano, compatriot Eusebio and club president Florentino Perez.

After three long years of waiting, Madrid have their man, and their man has Madrid. “This is my new home,” he said. As if the six-year £200,000-a-week contract was not greeting enough, he has the sight of a stadium genuflecting in his image to greet him.

“I am very happy to be here,” Ronaldo, clad in Real's all-white strip and his new number nine shirt, told fans.

“A childhood dream has come true for me, to come to Real Madrid. It's incredible that the stadium is full just for me,” he added, before showing off his skills with the ball and greeting fans around the stadium.

He also took the opportunity to pay respect to the fans: "I didn't expect a jam-packed stadium. This is truly impressive."

Ronaldo, who will wear the number nine shirt for the club, is the third player to be unveiled by Madrid since Florentino Perez became President of the club at the beginning of June, following in the footsteps of Kaka and Raul Albiol.

The attendance for Ronaldo at the Bernabeu is believed to be the biggest turn-out for an unveiling since an estimated 75,000 saw the arrival of Diego Maradona at Napoli from Barcelona in 1984.

The world’s most expensive player at £80 million admitted his ambition is to once again win the Champions League trophy he claimed with Manchester United and will be doing everything he can to achieve it.

But Ronaldo does not see himself as the only one capable of turning the club’s fate around insisting he is “not the only one that plays.”

He said: “In the games there are many players. I will be part of the team and I will give my best to win the Champions League. We have a great team and a great coach [Manuel Pellegrini]. We are going to take it step by step, taking it calmly, and then we can think about winning the Champions League. We have a decent chance, but we need to take it slow and work hard.”

Ronaldo played a key role in helping United reach two consecutive Champions league finals and has confidence in his ability to adapt in order to help Real achieve more European success.

“I know I’ll feel more pressure here than at Manchester United, but I have faith in myself and I’m ambitious. I want the league to begin so I can do my absolute best,” he added.

“I expect a different league of course. I played six years in the Premier League and it’s very difficult. It’s faster and players are stronger. It’s very competitive here as well. I think I’m ready for the challenge. I eat well, sleep well, drink well. It’s not a problem, I’m ready for La Liga.

“I hope I can give some problems to defenders, and I think it will be interesting.”

Cristiano Ronaldo also has to face the challenge of dealing with Spain's voracious press despite his stated desire to lead a "quiet" life in Spain and focus on winning titles.

"I'm going to watch TV at home, quiet, with my feet on the table", he told a news conference late on Monday where he faced repeated questions over his capacity to deal with the temptations of Madrid's lively nightlife.

"I worked hard to get here, I am not going to go sleep under a banana tree now," the 24-year-old Portuguese striker added.

"We have a globally known footballer as well as a potential cover of Vogue," wrote daily newspaper El Mundo, adding Ronaldo does not hate nightlife as shown by his recent flirtation with Hollywood socialite Paris Hilton.

In a country where gossip magazines and television shows dedicated to celebrities are an institution, the Portuguese playmaker risks being pursued at all times by the camaras and smitten women.

"He is going to have the paparazzi at his door at all hours, and being single, in Madrid the press is going to claim three or four different women are his girlfriend everyday," said Atletico Madrid's former Portuguese international Paulo Futre.

"Ronaldo is responsible for the most expensive transfer of all time, is involved in marketing campaigns and in Spain the gossip press is very influential. This is an explosive mixture," he told daily Portuguese newspaper Correio da Manha.

On the evening of the American election, local Ottawa DJ ReddBear — otherwise known as Charles Cooper — was with his partner in Vermont.

"Obama won — we were so happy," Cooper says. "And then the next day, we heard about what happened in California and it was kind of depressing. It's a liberal state — how could something like this happen?"

Proposition 8 — the California ballot-initiative that saw voters agree to amending the state constitution to ban gay marriage — sparked a nationwide outcry.

Two other states passed similar bans on the same day. But California had been granting same-sex marriages since May, making it the only state where the right had been repealed.

Within days, a website called Join The Impact was launched, which facilitated organizing rallies throughout California, the rest of the States and beyond.

Cooper had been forwarded an email about Join the Impact and he opened a thread asking how Canadians could help out.

"My partner lives in Vermont," Cooper says. "I can't just sit around and do nothing."

Website organizers replied to Cooper, suggesting he start up a rally here, which Cooper set about doing, including launching a Facebook group to help spread the word.

In Canada, rallies were held in Ottawa, Toronto, Vancouver and Montreal, with additional protests planned for Calgary, Halifax, Windsor, and even Sault Ste Marie.

American pundits are calling it Stonewall 2.0. Protests there have been gaining, rather than losing, momentum since the Nov 4 vote and they show no signs of stopping. Like the 1969 riot, the month's protests have been marked by rage, and at least five people have been arrested in California during gay-marriage rallies.

Nigel Flear, president of the Canadian lobby group Egale, attended the Ottawa rally.

"I think it's important that we protest any rights issue, be it national or international," Flear says. "It's part of our mission to look at cases like this and to support anyone who's been oppressed, or in this case, one of the worst situations where someone had rights and they were taken away from them."

While Cooper had initially tried to get permission to stage the rally on Parliament Hill, protocol demands 10 days' notice, which proved insufficient time.

Instead, the Human Rights Monument was chosen as a more appropriate venue and less of an organizational challenge, and the symbolism was fitting.

"Gay rights are human rights," Cooper pointed out at the rally.

While two dozen supporters turned out in the rain, the march toward the American Embassy on Sussex Drive proved uneventful.

The Join the Impact website is an example of how the internet continues to revolutionize grassroots social movements, and it provided a how-to kit for organizing a protest including how to send out press releases and suggestions for signs.

Join the Impact estimates that over 100,000 people turned out in over 150 rallies. They plan to follow up this success with a second day of action, called "A Day Without A Gay" for Dec 10.

As for why it's important for Canadians to join in, Cooper had this to offer:

"A lot of my American friends supported us when we had the gay-marriage bill, and I think it's only fair that we show our support back."

Anti-gay beating investigated

Four attackers may have mistaken two brothers walking arm in arm as gay before using an aluminum baseball bat, a bottle and their feet to beat one of them into critical condition, New York City police said Monday.

One of the attackers used an anti-gay slur when first confronting the brothers, Ecuadorean immigrants who were walking down a Brooklyn street early Sunday after a night of drinking.
"For some reason they didn't like the two men they believed were gay ... and felt so emboldened in their hatred that they acted it out in violence," said City Council Speaker Christine Quinn.
Police said the attack occurred around 3:30 a.m. Sunday as the brothers neared their home on foot. One attacker jumped out of the SUV, used the anti-gay slur and smashed one of the brothers over the head with a bottle.

As the other brother ran away, three men exited the vehicle and joined the assault, police said. One hit the victim in the head with the bat while the others kicked him.

At some point, the other brother returned holding a cell phone and told the men he had called police. They then drove off together.

The 31-year-old victim remained hospitalized Monday in critical condition, said police, who did not release his name or that of his brother.

The office of Brooklyn prosecutor Charles Hynes and the New York Police Department's Hate Crime Task Force were investigating. They urged the public to help identify the attackers.

Caner prevention for gay men may not be as simple as putting out a cigarette. According to the American Cancer Society, gay men are at increased risk for skin, prostate, colon and lung cancer due to lack of health care coverage and discrimination. Here's what you need to know about gay men and cancer prevention:
Lack of health coverage.
Some companies offer same-sex benefits; but for those that do not, gay partners are left without adequate health coverage- which is a factor in early detection of cancer.
Health care discrimination and negative experiences.
Many gay men feel apprehensive about getting medical help for fear of discrimination. I am reminded of a time when a friend of mine went to his doctor awaiting a diagnosis of the flu. Once the doctor found out he was gay, she told him to go to the HIV/AIDS clinic immediately. Terrified and tearful, he solicited a second opinion from a doctor he knew was gay-friendly. His illness was indeed the stomach flu with no sign of HIV. My friend's misdiagnosis and his doctor's discomfort with gay patients could have easily resulted in a phobia against medical professionals. For this reason some gay men do not visit the doctor, which can delay early detection of cancer.
Gay men and smoking.
Smoke-filled bars and clubs are common hang outs for some gay men. For this reason, according to the American Cancer Society, gay men are more likely to smoke or be exposed to smoke. Smoking accelerates the progression of AIDS and increases the risk of lung cancer. HIV also accelerates smoking-induced emphysema.

It's been over a year since I kicked some smoking butt. I remember having no desire to smoke before I started. I often hung out with people that smoked either at bars or just socializing. I finally accepted their offer to have a drag. One drag turned into half of a cigarette. That single stick turned into several bummed cigarettes a day and eventually a purchased pack. My habit was in full acceleration.

I finally had enough of the stinky clothes and bad breath and tarnished belonging, so I decided it was time to dine in the cooler smoke-free section. I kicked the habit! How? I let my pride lead me to a smoke-free life. I made a wager with a friend (and heavy smoker). The first to pick up a cigarette had to forfeit a dollar. Neither one of us wanted to lose. We are both still smoke free to this day.
